Senior Electrical Engineer - Data Center Facilities

ROLE OBJECTIVE To provide senior level electrical engineering leadership and independent technical assurance for Otech s mission critical data center portfolio, ensuring that electrical infrastructure is safe, resilient, scalable, maintainable and fit for continuous operation. The role independently reviews and validates electrical designs, calculations, equipment selections, capacity and redundancy requirements, and challenges consultants, OEMs, contractors and service providers where required to protect Otech s operational, technical and commercial interests. RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic / Engineering Governance Act as the senior electrical engineering subject-matter expert for Otech data centers and provide independent technical recommendations to management. Develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, design principles, technical baselines and lifecycle requirements for mission-critical facilities. Support capacity planning, expansion roadmaps, asset lifecycle and obsolescence planning across the data center portfolio. Ensure technical decisions balance availability, resilience, safety, maintainability, scalability and total lifecycle cost. Technical Engineering Review electrical designs, SLDs, load schedules, specifications, calculations, equipment schedules, shop drawings, method statements and as-built documents. Perform or verify load/capacity analysis, cable sizing, voltage drop, fault-level/short-circuit studies, protection coordination/selectivity and related engineering calculations. Review MV/LV systems, transformers, switchgear, UPS/batteries, DRUPS/generators, ATS/STS, busway/tap-offs, PDU/RPP/rack power, earthing, lightning/surge protection, metering, harmonics and power quality. Validate N, N+1, 2N and other critical-power architectures, including single points of failure and concurrent-maintainability implications. Review electrical requirements for high-density racks, POD and containment designs and future power-growth requirements. Vendor, Consultant & Commercial Governance Independently challenge consultant, OEM and contractor assumptions, calculations, equipment selections and technical recommendations when not adequately justified. Recommend acceptance, rejection or conditional acceptance of technical submissions based on documented engineering evidence. Evaluate substitutions, deviations, value engineering and change requests for technical necessity, operational risk and lifecycle impact. Support Procurement and project teams with technical bid evaluation, bid normalization, clarifications and assessment of variations. Identify technically unjustified over-sizing, under-sizing, unnecessary complexity or avoidable vendor lock-in before commercial commitment. Projects, Testing & Commissioning Provide electrical engineering input from concept/RFP through detailed design, construction, testing, commissioning, handover and operational acceptance. Review FAT/SAT, ITPs, commissioning procedures, integrated systems testing and failure-mode scenarios and witness critical tests. Ensure electrical defects, punch-list items and non-conformities are closed or formally risk-accepted prior to final acceptance. Verify final O&M manuals, test certificates, training, warranties, spares and as-built records. Operations, Reliability & Safety Provide escalation support for complex electrical faults and high-risk maintenance or switching activities. Lead/support RCA for electrical trips, failures, abnormal power events and recurring defects and ensure corrective/preventive actions are technically adequate. Review preventive/predictive maintenance strategies, switching procedures, MOP/SOP/EOP documents, isolation plans and risk assessments. Ensure safe systems of work, LOTO/isolation discipline, permit-to-work controls and applicable electrical safety requirements. Support technical audits, compliance reviews, customer assessments and continuous-improvement activities. People / Knowledge Transfer Coach and provide technical guidance to Data Center Facilities engineers and operations teams. Build internal capability through technical reviews, lessons learned, incident findings and structured knowledge transfer. Promote disciplined engineering decision-making and documentation across projects and operations. ROLE SPECIFICATIONS Education & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution. Master's degree and relevant professional engineering registration/certification are advantageous. Experience Typically 8 12+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience, with substantial hands-on experience in mission-critical facilities/data centers. Experience with new builds, brownfield expansion, live-site changes, commissioning and complex fault investigation is strongly preferred. Skills Demonstrable experience with critical power architectures and MV/LV distribution, UPS, batteries, generators/DRUPS, switchgear, protection, busway/PDU systems and high-availability electrical infrastructure.

Desired Candidate Profile

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution. Master's degree and relevant professional engineering registration/certification are advantageous.
