Job Overview
To support the successful commercial delivery of assigned projects through effective Quantity Surveying, cost control and contract administration. The role is responsible for ensuring accurate measurement, valuations, payment applications and commercial reporting, while identifying commercial opportunities and risks throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with project, client and consultant teams, the Quantity Surveyor will help protect the company’s commercial position, cash flow and profitability, ensuring all activities are delivered in line with contract requirements, company procedures and project objectives. Review and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, Bills of Quantity and specifications, and undertake detailed measurements and take-offs in accordance with the applicable method of measurement for valuations, variations, claims, final measurement and subcontractor/supplier commercial matters. Liaise with the Engineering Department to ensure measurements are based on current drawing revisions and maintain marked-up drawings, measurement records and registers for project progress and commercial purposes. Undertake physical site measurements as required and maintain accurate supporting measurement records, including photographic records where appropriate, to substantiate valuations, variations, claims and other commercial matters. Liaise with Client/Consultant commercial staff on assigned matters and maintain tracking schedules for variations, dayworks, payments, final measurements, additional works and claims. Identify and raise commercial issues with the Project Quantity Surveyor or senior commercial staff as appropriate. Prepare and submit interim/monthly payment applications and variation cost proposals, ensuring appropriate measurement and supporting information is provided. Monitor certification and assist in following up outstanding payments and variations with the Client/Consultant. Prepare subcontract and supplier commercial bid analyses, monthly subcontract cost liability schedules and assessments of interim payments and variations. Prepare payment recommendations/certifications in accordance with the terms of agreement and within required timescales, referring significant issues to senior commercial staff. Coordinate with Operations staff, cost clerks, timekeepers and stores personnel to ensure correct cost coding and allocations are maintained, and undertake stock and inventory checks or audits as required for payment applications, reporting or internal control purposes. Prepare and maintain commercial information required for project cost/value reports and forecasts, including detailed under-measure/over-measure records and other supporting information as required by senior commercial staff. Prepare and maintain resource allowables, material wastage reports and commercial tracking schedules as required, and identify significant variances or issues for review by senior commercial staff. Research, compile and maintain records and commercial information required to support variations and claims, including the substantiation or defense of claims against the Company, as directed by senior commercial staff. In addition to the above responsibilities, undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as may be reasonably required by the Line Manager or Management.
Desired Candidate Profile
Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or another relevant construction discipline. 4–6 years' relevant Quantity Surveying experience within the construction industry, including practical experience in measurement and commercial administration on construction projects. Good knowledge of Quantity Surveying principles, methods of measurement and construction drawings and documentation. Working knowledge of measurement and valuation, variations, subcontract commercial administration, cost control and commercial reporting. Good numerical, analytical, planning and problem-solving skills, with effective communication and teamwork. Employment Type Full-time
