Quality Inspector (Structural)

The Quality Inspector – Structural will be responsible for carrying out inspection and quality control activities for structural and civil construction works in accordance with approved project drawings, specifications, ITPs, method statements, ADNOC requirements, applicable international standards, and project quality procedures. The role will focus on reinforced concrete, foundations, formwork, reinforcement, embedded items, structural steel erection, grouting and associated structural works. The position will coordinate closely with Construction, Engineering, QA/QC, subcontractors, laboratories, and ADNOC/Client representatives to ensure that all works meet the required quality standards and are accepted without unnecessary delays.

Key Responsibilities

• Drawing, Specification & ITP Review approved IFC drawings, structural specifications, method statements, ITPs, checklists and relevant project quality procedures
• Identify applicable inspection stages, hold points, witness points and acceptance criteria
• Verify that the latest approved drawings and documents are available at the work location before commencing inspection
• Ensure inspection activities comply with project specifications, ADNOC requirements and applicable international standards
• Structural & Civil Inspection Conduct inspection of structural and civil works including: Foundations, pile caps and pedestals
• Reinforced concrete structures and equipment foundations
• Reinforcement installation and fixing
• Formwork, shuttering, alignment, levels and dimensions
• Embedded plates, anchor bolts, sleeves, inserts and other embedded items
• Concrete pouring, placement, vibration, finishing and curing
• Structural steel fabrication and erection
• Steel columns, beams, pipe racks, platforms, ladders, stairs and handrails
• Structural steel alignment, level, plumbness and connection arrangements
• Bolted and welded structural connections in coordination with the relevant welding/NDT personnel
• Grouting and associated structural activities
• Reinforcement & Concrete Inspection Verify reinforcement diameter, spacing, lap length, anchorage, development length, cover, supports and cleanliness before concrete placement
• Check formwork dimensions, line, level, plumbness, stability, cleanliness and release-agent application
• Verify installation and location of anchor bolts, embedded plates, sleeves, inserts and other items prior to concrete placement
• Monitor concrete delivery and placement activities against approved procedures
• Verify concrete temperature, slump, sampling and cube/cylinder testing requirements as applicable
• Ensure proper vibration, finishing, curing and protection of concrete
• Coordinate with the approved testing laboratory for required concrete and material testing
• Review concrete test results and ensure non-conforming results are properly addressed
• Structural Steel Inspection Inspect structural steel erection activities against approved drawings and specifications
• Verify member identification, orientation, dimensions, alignment, levels and plumbness
• Inspect bolted connections, bolt grade, installation, tightening and visual condition
• Verify welding readiness and coordinate with the Welding Inspector/NDT personnel for applicable inspections and testing
• Check structural steel surfaces, protective coating/fireproofing interfaces and accessibility where applicable
• Verify that structural steel installation is completed and accepted before release for subsequent activities
• Inspection Requests & Client Coordination Prepare and submit WIR/RFI in accordance with approved ITPs and project procedures
• Coordinate inspection schedules with Construction, subcontractors and ADNOC/Client representatives
• Attend joint inspections with ADNOC, Consultant, EPC Contractor, Third-Party Inspectors and other relevant parties
• Record inspection results, comments and observations and ensure timely closure of outstanding items
• Ensure work is not released beyond applicable inspection hold points without the required approval
• NCR & Corrective Action Identify defective or non-conforming materials, workmanship and construction activities
• Assist in preparation and issuance of NCRs, Site Observation Reports and Corrective Action Requests as required
• Coordinate with Construction and subcontractors to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
• Conduct re-inspections after corrective action and verify satisfactory closure
• Maintain proper traceability of NCRs and corrective actions until final closure
• Quality Documentation & Records Prepare daily inspection reports, checklists and quality records
• Maintain WIR/RFI, inspection reports, test reports, material certificates and related documentation
• Ensure inspection records are properly indexed, traceable and maintained for project handover
• Support compilation of the Structural Mechanical Completion / Quality Dossier and final handover documentation
• Provide required documentation during internal, client and ADNOC quality audits
• Site Coordination & Quality Support Coordinate daily inspection activities with Construction Engineers, Site Engineers, Supervisors and subcontractors
• Support the QA/QC Engineer during client inspections, quality meetings and audits
• Monitor site activities to ensure construction teams follow approved drawings, method statements and ITP requirements
• Highlight potential quality issues before they develop into NCRs or rework
• Support punch-list inspections and close-out activities
• Promote a proactive quality culture and ensure quality requirements are understood by construction personnel

Desired Candidate Profile

Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related discipline. Minimum 8–15 years of QA/QC inspection experience in major Civil, Oil & Gas, LNG, Petrochemical or EPC projects. Experience in ADNOC projects is highly preferred. Previous experience on LNG, gas processing plants, refineries, petrochemical facilities, pipe racks or major industrial projects will be an advantage. Strong practical experience in reinforced concrete, foundations and structural steel inspection. Good knowledge of structural drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs and inspection procedures. Hands-on experience in preparing and closing WIR/RFI, NCR, punch lists and quality documentation. Familiarity with ADNOC specifications and applicable project standards. Working knowledge of ACI, ASTM, BS/EN, ISO and relevant structural/construction standards. Knowledge of ADNOC structural requirements, including applicable requirements for reinforced concrete and structural steel, is preferred. ADNOC's published structural specifications reference ACI 318/ACI 301 for concrete and its structural-steel specification AGES-SP-01-002 for structural connections and quality control. Ability to read and interpret IFC drawings, structural details, bar bending schedules and construction specifications. Good knowledge of inspection and testing requirements for concrete, reinforcement and structural steel. Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel. Good communication, coordination and reporting skills. Ability to work in a demanding site-based Oil & Gas/LNG construction environment and coordinate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
