Warehouse Supervisor - Receiving

Supervise the day-to-day receiving operation, ensuring incoming goods are unloaded, checked, recorded, stored, and processed accurately, safely, and efficiently. Coordinate and prioritise daily goods-in activities in line with delivery schedules, purchase orders, warehouse capacity, operational requirements, and company procedures. Supervise the unloading of vehicles and ensure goods are handled safely using appropriate manual handling techniques, pallet trucks, trolleys, forklifts, or other warehouse equipment where trained and authorised. Check incoming deliveries against purchase orders, delivery notes, advance shipping information, and other relevant documentation. Ensure quantities, product codes, descriptions, batch numbers, expiry dates, packaging, and condition of goods are checked and recorded accurately. Identify and report shortages, overages, damaged goods, incorrect items, quality concerns, temperature issues, and other delivery discrepancies promptly. Coordinate the quarantine, segregation, labelling, and escalation of damaged, rejected, non-conforming, or unidentified stock in accordance with company procedures. Ensure received stock is labelled, booked into the warehouse management system, and transferred to the correct storage location within required timeframes. Maintain accurate computerised inventory transactions, goods received notes, delivery records, discrepancy reports, and other receiving documentation. Monitor the timely processing of inbound deliveries and communicate delays, capacity issues, delivery problems, or stock concerns to the appropriate manager. Allocate tasks, provide clear instructions, and support the training, guidance, and performance of Warehouse Assistants and other colleagues working in the receiving area. Act as a senior point of contact for drivers, suppliers, carriers, warehouse colleagues, purchasing, quality, customer service, and management teams regarding inbound deliveries. Ensure receiving areas, loading bays, docks, aisles, and workstations remain clean, organised, secure, and free from obstructions. Monitor stock rotation, location procedures, product handling requirements, and storage conditions for newly received goods. Complete or oversee routine checks of warehouse equipment and report defects, damage, maintenance requirements, or unsafe conditions without delay. Support stock counts, cycle counts, inventory investigations, audits, supplier claims, and the resolution of receiving discrepancies. Ensure all receiving activities comply with health and safety, manual handling, fire safety, security, hygiene, quality, and personal protective equipment (PPE) procedures. Support process improvements, operational projects, seasonal demand, and other warehouse requirements as directed by the Direct Manager. Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the Direct Manager. Requirements Previous experience as a Warehouse Supervisor, Receiving Supervisor, Goods-In Supervisor, Warehouse Coordinator, Stock Controller, or in a similar warehouse or logistics role. Good understanding of warehouse receiving, goods-in, unloading, delivery checking, stock control, inventory management, and general logistics processes. Experience supervising or coordinating warehouse colleagues and allocating tasks in a busy operational environment. Experience checking deliveries against purchase orders and delivery documentation, recording stock accurately, and investigating discrepancies. Experience using warehouse management systems, inventory systems, barcode scanners, handheld terminals, or other computerised stock control systems. Knowledge of safe unloading, manual handling, stock identification, product labelling, stock rotation, storage procedures, and warehouse health and safety requirements. Current forklift truck or other material handling equipment certification is an advantage, where relevant to the warehouse operation. Ability to organise and prioritise inbound deliveries, manage competing workloads, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy during busy operational periods. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear instructions and work effectively with drivers, suppliers, colleagues, and management. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify delivery issues, take appropriate action, and escalate concerns promptly. High level of accuracy and attention to detail when checking quantities, product information, delivery condition, documentation, and inventory records. Good numeracy, organisational, administrative, and basic computer skills. Physically able to stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull goods and equipment for extended periods, in accordance with safe manual handling procedures. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, take responsibility, support colleagues, follow procedures, and maintain a professional approach. Reliable, punctual, proactive, safety-conscious, and committed to maintaining high standards of receiving accuracy, warehouse efficiency, and customer service. Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, public holidays, overtime, and additional shifts when required by business operations.
