Shift Incharge (Engineer)

Job Description Roles & Responsibilities Position Overview The Shift Incharge (Engineer) is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving all electrical systems and automation equipment that support ductile iron pipe production. The role ensures high equipment reliability, minimum downtime, and safe operation across melting, casting, annealing, and finishing sections. Key Responsibilities 1. Electrical Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Develop and execute electrical preventive maintenance schedules. Conduct inspections on MCC panels, switchgear, drives, motors, and control systems. Carry out predictive maintenance using tools such as infrared thermography and motor testing devices. 2. Breakdowns & Troubleshooting Diagnose and resolve electrical failures in production equipment. Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for repeated faults. Ensure quick restoration of power and equipment operation during emergency breakdowns. 3. Equipment & System Coverage Responsible for electrical and automation systems for: Induction melting furnaces Centrifugal casting machines Annealing furnaces Finishing and cutting machines Pipe handling conveyors and transfer systems Hydraulic/pneumatic system control panels Motors, drives (VFD/Soft Starters), PLCs, SCADA Transformers, HT/LT panels, generators Plant lighting, emergency power systems Cooling system pumps and associated controls 4. Automation & Control Systems Monitor and troubleshoot PLC logic, SCADA alarms, and automation interlocks. Work with instrumentation and control teams on calibration and system upgrades. Implement program modifications for improved efficiency and safety. 5. Electrical Safety & Compliance Ensure adherence to LOTO, arc-flash protection, and electrical safety standards. Maintain compliance with ISO/OHSAS and local electrical regulations. Conduct risk assessments, JSA, and safety audits. Prepare and update SOPs and electrical drawings (SLD, wiring diagrams). 6. Spare Parts & Inventory Control Maintain stock of critical electrical spares (sensors, contactors, breakers, drives). Verify quality of new electrical components and ensure correct installation. Coordinate with stores and procurement for timely availability of spares. 7. Documentation & Reporting Maintain electrical maintenance records . Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly breakdown and performance reports. Track KPIs , breakdown hours, and power consumption trends. Key Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems (HT & LT). Able to handle multi task / more then one function .Also, Training employees to perform different job functions Expertise in PLC/SCADA, VFDs, soft starters, and automation troubleshooting. Practical experience with induction furnaces and heavy industrial equipment. Ability to read electrical drawings, SLDs, and wiring diagrams. Strong analytical and root-cause troubleshooting skills. Good communication and teamwork abilities. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering. 5–10 years of experience in heavy industry (preferably ductile iron pipe plants). Work Environment High-temperature industrial environment with exposure to heavy machinery. Requires availability during electrical emergencies and shutdowns. Close coordination with mechanical, utilities, production, and safety departments. Desired Candidate Profile .
