Cloud Operations Engineer

Job Description Roles & Responsibilities We are seeking an experienced Cloud Operations Engineer responsible for maintaining, securing, automating, and optimizing our AWS-based production infrastructure supporting a high-volume email marketing platform. The ideal candidate will ensure the availability, security, and performance of cloud services while supporting the company's email delivery infrastructure and maintaining industry best practices for email authentication and deliverability. The role works closely with Engineering, Security, Product, and Customer Success teams to maintain production systems, troubleshoot infrastructure issues, and continuously improve operational efficiency through automation. Cloud Infrastructure Management Manage and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure. Provision and manage EC2 instances, Auto Scaling Groups, Application Load Balancers, Route 53, VPCs, Security Groups, IAM, EBS, S3, and CloudFront. Perform infrastructure provisioning using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and CloudFormation). Monitor infrastructure capacity, performance, and cost optimization. Ensure high availability and business continuity across production environments. Production Operations Monitor production systems and respond to incidents in a timely manner. Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for production outages. Participate in on-call rotation and operational support. Perform Linux and Windows server administration, security patching, and system maintenance. Maintain production stability with minimal downtime. Monitoring & Observability Build and maintain Amazon CloudWatch dashboards and alarms. Configure SNS notifications for infrastructure alerts. Monitor application performance, infrastructure health, storage, networking, and system availability. Investigate performance bottlenecks and recommend improvements. Security & Compliance Manage SSL/TLS certificates using AWS Certificate Manager and Let's Encrypt. Implement IAM policies following the principle of least privilege. Support vulnerability management using Amazon Inspector, GuardDuty, and Security Hub. Perform infrastructure hardening and security best practices. Support compliance initiatives and security audits. Backup & Disaster Recovery Manage AWS Backup policies and retention schedules. Monitor backup jobs and recovery point health. Perform disaster recovery testing and restoration procedures. Maintain disaster recovery documentation and operational runbooks. Infrastructure Automation Develop automation using Terraform, CloudFormation, Python, Bash, and PowerShell. Automate operational tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention. Maintain reusable infrastructure templates and deployment pipelines. Email Infrastructure Support Support the cloud infrastructure hosting the company's email delivery platform. Troubleshoot infrastructure issues affecting email delivery services. Work with Engineering teams to ensure high availability of mail-related services. Maintain DNS records associated with email infrastructure. Containerization & DevOps Support aws ecs applications. Collaborate with development teams on CI/CD pipelines. Troubleshoot containerized workloads and deployments. Networking Configure and troubleshoot: VPCs Subnets Route Tables Internet & NAT Gateways Security Groups Network ACLs Route 53 DNS Load Balancers SSL/TLS termination VPN connectivity Documentation & Operational Excellence Develop and maintain operational documentation and runbooks. Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Participate in change management processes. Drive continuous improvements in automation, reliability, security, and operational efficiency. Ensure secure, scalable, and reliable cloud operations. Support the stability of the company's email delivery platform. Reduce operational overhead through automation. Maintain backup and disaster recovery readiness. Continuously improve cloud security, monitoring, and operational processes. Contribute to reliable email authentication and deliverability by applying best practices for SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and DNS configuration. Desired Candidate Profile Candidates **must have a solid understanding** of: SMTP fundamentals Email authentication standards SPF (Sender Policy Framework) DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) DNS records (MX, TXT, CNAME, PTR) Email deliverability concepts TLS/SSL certificates used by mail systems Knowledge of PowerMTA (PMTA), mailing systems, or other enterprise Mail Transfer Agents is considered a strong advantage. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience. 5+ years of Cloud Operations, Systems Engineering, or DevOps experience. AWS Certifications (Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or DevOps Engineer) are highly desirable. Experience supporting SaaS production environments. Experience with enterprise email or messaging platforms is a plus. Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. Excellent communication and documentation abilities. Ownership mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
