Pull out the duty points: airflow, static/total pressure, temperature, density, altitude, gas composition and dust load. Note special requirements such as smoke extract rating, ATEX/explosion-proof, corrosion resistance, noise limits, vibration limits and hazardous areas. Raise technical queries (TQs) to clarify gaps, conflicts or missing data. Decide whether to bid or not, together with Sales. 2. Fan selection and engineering Select fans using in-house selection software and performance curves. This covers axial, centrifugal, mixed-flow, jet/car-park, roof, inline, smoke extract, plug/EC and process/ID/FD fans. Size motors, drives (direct, belt or VFD), impellers, casings and materials. Choose accessories: dampers, silencers, anti-vibration mounts, inlet boxes, guards, flexible connections and isolators. Check selections for efficiency (FEI / ErP / IE class), noise (sound power and pressure), system effect and operating margin. Offer value-engineered alternatives, such as lower-cost or more efficient options and equivalents to competitor models. 3. Proposal preparation Prepare the full techno-commercial offer: technical datasheets, performance curves, GA drawings, noise data, compliance statement and deviation list. Build costing from the bill of materials, with input from Procurement and Production. Apply pricing and margin rules. Define scope, exclusions, delivery lead time, warranty, payment terms and Incoterms. Make sure every proposal goes out on time and follows the standard templates and approval matrix. 4. Compliance and submittals Prepare clause-by-clause compliance against the consultant specification. Prepare material submittals and technical approval packages for consultants and Civil Defence. Keep certifications on file (AMCA, EN 12101-3, UL, ATEX, test reports) and reference them correctly. 5. Customer and sales support Join technical clarification meetings along with sales team and presentations with clients, consultants, contractors and EPCs. Support negotiations with sales team on technical justification and revised offers. 6. Order handover Once an order is won, hand it over to Design and Production with a clear technical order sheet, including any changes agreed during negotiation. Support approval drawings, witness tests (FAT) and technical questions during execution. 7. Records and continuous improvement Keep the enquiry and proposal log (CRM/ERP) up to date, including win/loss status and the reasons. Suggest updates to the product range, selection tools and costing sheets based on market feedback.
